Iced Latte at Home, With or Without an Espresso Machine

Milk swirling into espresso over ice in a tall glass

An iced latte is just strong coffee, cold milk and ice. The trick is making the coffee strong enough that the ice and milk do not wash it out.

Method

Iced latte

Ratio1:4
Coffee
Double espresso (about 40 ml)
Water
160 ml cold milk
Time
2 min

Three ways to make the coffee

  • Espresso machine: pull a double shot straight over the ice.
  • Moka pot: brew as usual and let it cool for a minute before pouring.
  • Cold brew concentrate: use 60 ml of 1:5 concentrate in place of the espresso.

Build the glass

Fill a tall glass with ice, pour in the milk, then add the coffee last so it drifts down through the milk. Stir before drinking. Sweeten with simple syrup rather than sugar, which will not dissolve in cold milk.
