How to Brew a V60: A Simple Pour-Over Recipe

Water poured from a gooseneck kettle into a ceramic V60 dripper on a kitchen scale

The V60 rewards a little attention with a clean, bright cup. This recipe keeps the steps few and the numbers fixed, so the only thing you need to adjust is the grind.

Method

V60, one cup

Ratio1:16.7
Coffee
15 g
Water
250 g
Grind
Medium-fine, like table salt
Water temp
93–96 °C
Time
2:30–3:00

The recipe

  1. Rinse the paper filter with hot water and discard the water.
  2. Add 15 g of coffee, level the bed and start a timer.
  3. Bloom: pour 40 g of water, swirl gently and wait 35 seconds.
  4. Pour slowly in small circles to 150 g by 1:15.
  5. Pour to 250 g by 1:45, then give the dripper a gentle swirl.
  6. Let it drain. Total time should land between 2:30 and 3:00.

Adjusting the grind

  • Drains in under 2:30 and tastes sour or thin: grind finer.
  • Takes over 3:30 and tastes bitter or dry: grind coarser.

Change one step at a time and keep everything else the same, so you can tell what made the difference.
